Are your Sunday School classrooms accessible to children with disabilities?

We'd love to help!

Consider hosting a respite event:

Respite Events are an opportunity for families affected by disability to drop-off their children with disabilities and siblings at your church for 3-4 hours of fun. The parents are able to enjoy a badly needed break from their strenuous parenting.  Volunteers are given the opportunity to serve side-by-side with their friends in a fun and easy setting.  Barriers are broken and a wonderful service is provided to the community.

How can the Green Pastures Family Support Program Partner with Your Church?

CHILDREN AND YOUTH PROGRAM SUPPORT—We can help you evaluate your current programs to see how they might be adapted to more fully welcome children and youth with disabilities

DISABILITY AWARENESS—We can conduct disability awareness activities with your children and/or youth.  We are always happy to train adult groups in disability awareness and sensitivity.

RESPITE EVENTS---We can help you host a drop-off program where parents can leave their children with disabilities and siblings for a morning or evening of care

SUPPORT GROUPS—We can help you facilitate support groups for parents or siblings

FELLOWSHIP OPPORTUNITIES—We would be happy to help you provide fellowship opportunities for individuals affected

SHARING RESOURCES—We have gathered a variety of resources on church disability outreach, Sunday school programming, and on-site respite programs.

SUGGESTING STRONG PROGRAMS FOR YOU TO VISIT—There are a number of excellent programs existing in the extended Bay Area for you to visit and observe.  There are also a number of outstanding programs around the country that offer helpful information on their websites.

MEETING WITH YOUR SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHERS OR OUTREACH COMMITTEE—We would be happy to share Biblical perspective, practical information and tools to use as your church considers how best to respond.

SPEAKING TO SMALL GROUPS OR OTHER GATHERINGS ABOUT RESPITE AND COMMUNITY OUTREACH—We are happy to share our vision of support with any group you think might be receptive

COORDINATING HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS LOOKING FOR CHRISTIAN SERVICE HOURS—We are hoping to “package” a number of volunteer opportunities for high school students looking for volunteer hours working with kids with disabilities.  We can include your disability outreach programs on the list.

OFFERING A RESPITE TRAINING WORKSHOP AT YOUR CHURCH—We can train and encourage members of your church and the community to consider offering in-home respite care to families with children with disabilities

COORDINATING RESPITE WORKERS AND FAMILIES—We can help you identify families in your community and congregation who need care, and will coordinate workers and families

Respite Events are a wonderful way to offer support to families
